“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success”. This quote from Henry Ford, published in the 2023 Annual Report of Marine Bioproducts Cooperative Research Centre (MBCRC), epitomises the nature of the Federal Government’s Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Program as well as the relationship between Lee Green and MBCRC.
MBCRC was established September 2021 after successful funding in Round 22 of the CRC Grants program. The CRC Program provides CRC Grants to support medium to long term industry-led collaborative research for up to 10 years, with the aim to improve competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries.
Combining $59m in Commonwealth cash funding with $200m+ of additional cash and in-kind funding from Research and Industry partners, MBCRC has already taken significant steps towards their goal of transforming Australia’s marine bioproducts sector into a globally competitive industry in its first 2 years of operations.
With their Government and partner funding covering the remaining 8 years, the MBCRC team are researching sustainable marine resources, innovative bioprocessing technologies and Australian marine bioproducts. Collaborating with partners across the globe, they are striving to deliver economic benefit across the industry whilst creating environmental sustainability, regional jobs and delivering First Nations education and training programs.
A key deliverable of MBCRC’s operations is to deliver an industry-focused education and training program, including a PhD program that builds capability and capacity in the marine bioproducts industry.
Having worked with MBCRC CEO Justin Coombs with a previous CRC, we are pleased to be working with Justin again and the team at MBCRC. Our role as part of their extended team is to maintain the finance function of the business to ensure their team can focus on delivering the research projects and programs on time and on budget.
In conjunction with Operations Manager Belinda Wade, we deliver financial reports for the Board, fulfill cash Commonwealth reporting in conjunction with their grant agreement and perform other day to day finance tasks including processing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and assisting with statutory external audits
As MBCRC reaches another stage in its maturity, Lee Green has focused on developing interactive Power BI dashboards for management to view progress against project and overall budgets, revenue progress, and will continue to further develop reporting capabilities as the CRC and its requirements grow.
You can find out more about MBCRC’s research projects and education programs via their website or on social media via LinkedIn.
